Alfredo (Freddy) Gonzalez was born on May 23, 1946 in Edinburg, Tx. He attended Lamar Elementary and EHS and graduated May 1965. He is an example of what our country stands for: a model son, a hard worker, a good student, an excellent athlete and a military hero (Marine). He enlisted in the US Marine Corps after graduating and served his country in the Vietnam War. Sergeant Freddy Gonzalez served two tours of duty in the Vietnam War. He volunteered for his second tour and lost his life in helping to save his fellow marines. Sergeant Afredo Gonzalez died a hero in the greatest tradition of our country. On October 31, 1969, VP, Spiro Agnew, on behalf of President Richard Nixon, presented to Dolia Gonzalez, mother of Sergeant Alfredo (Freddy) Gonzalez, the highest award for bravery that can be given to an individual in the United States of America - the Congressional Medal of Honor.
